In this documentary, “The Making of a Legend by DP Custom Cycle & Local Motors”, we will see the first crowd-sourced custom motorcycle. The Racer was designed by Local Motors‘ community member André Costa of Portugal, and created in partnership with DP Customs.
They partnered in an online Motorcycle Design Challenge. 106 participants from 25 countries proposed sketches and renderings for a Sportster to be build later by DP Custom Cycles. Andre Costa from Portugal won the design challenge with a motorcycle inspired by the Brabham BT44 with a Martini Racing livery. Making sure to be faithful to Costa’s concept, DP’s Jarrod and Justin Del Prado went to work in their small shop of New River, AZ and just completed the Sportster “Racer” featured here.

About DP Custom Cycles
The company is DP Custom Cycles (“DP Customs”), but they are also widely known in the custom motorcycle world as, quite simply, the Del Prado brothers. In just a few years’ time, brothers Justin and Jarrod Del Prado have produced 30 custom motorcycles out of their 2-man custom shop in New River, Arizona, USA. More than incredibly cool guys to work with, they are artisans, gearheads, rising stars, and have racked up a hefty load of industry accolades and attention with each custom motorcycle they’ve unveiled.
